Procedures and Policies
Pockets and Awards
Pockets and Awards
Sport Term Pocket Policy
Refer to this link for the guidelines for receiving a pocket (making up a missed training session/participation/uniform/attitude/team spirit etc).
Girls who miss a training session (unless COVID related) need to make up a session in order to meet the pocket criteria. They will need to do a fitness session in the Gymnasium on a Tuesday or Wednesday at lunch. Students doing the fitness session need to be changed and ready to go by no later than 12.40 pm. There won’t be the chance to ‘jump-in’ on another team’s training (as a make-up option) as this interferes with the other team and makes session planning for the coach difficult.
All makeup fitness sessions must be completed before the final round of the term.
If you have any further questions regarding pockets, please contact the Head of Sport : [email protected]
Coaches' Code of Behaviour
Coaches' Code of Behaviour
- Basic skills should be taught to all team members. Children should be encouraged to play hard and win fairly.
- Teach your players that rules of the sport are mutual agreements, which no one should evade or break.
- Children should participate for fun and enjoyment and winning is only part of their motivation. Never ridicule or yell at the children for making mistakes or losing a competition.
- Coaching during games should not interfere with the control by the referee or umpire, nor should it be offensive to opponents.
- Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of the players.
- Develop team respect for the ability of the opponents as well as for the judgement of officials and opposing coaches.
- Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed of sound coaching principles and the principles of growth and development of children.
- Make it a positive experience for the children.
Spectators' Code of Behaviour
Spectators' Code of Behaviour
- Children play organised sports for fun. They are not playing for the entertainment of spectators only, nor are they miniature professionals.
- Applaud good performances and efforts from each team. Congratulate all participants upon their performance regardless of the game’s outcome.
- Respect the officials’ decision.
- Never ridicule or scold a child for making a mistake during a competition.
- Positive comments are motivational and encourage continued effort.
- Condemn the use of violence in any form, be it by spectators, coaches, officials or players.
- Show respect for your team’s opponents. Without them there would be no game.
- Encourage players to follow the rules and the officials’ decisions.
- Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by not using foul language, harassing players, coaches or officials.
- Comments should not interfere with the running of the game.
- Focus on the efforts and performance of the children rather than the result.
All grounds must be kept clean - litter must be placed in the bins provided.
PRAISE
Praise is encouraged at all levels.
GRIEVANCE & COMPLAINTS PROCEDURES
Complaints concerning the conduct of games;
- should not be made during or after the game.
- should be referred to one’s Head of Sport and any action should be left to his/her discretion.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should parents contact other schools directly.
A complaint may be made about an act, behaviour, omission, situation or decision that someone believes is a breach of the Code of Behaviour. A complaint can be received verbally or written. If there is a failure to comply with the various Codes of Behaviour by an individual, the following procedures need to be followed:
- Refer the matter to the Head of Sport, or, if unavailable, the Sport Facilitator who will escalate the issue as required
- If the complaint is of high concern or severity, it shall be taken by the Head of Sport to the Principal
- The appropriate school representative (Head of Sport, Sport Facilitator or Principal) will discuss the matter with the student or person making the complaint. An appropriate course of action will be decided and solutions put into place. If an issue still exists, the Head of Sport may meet with the parent(s) or other people involved to resolve the issue.
Players' Code of Behaviour
Players' Code of Behaviour
- Play by the rules.
- Never argue with an official.
- Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not permitted in any sport.
- Work equally hard for yourself and/or for your team. Your team will benefit, so will you.
- Be a good sport. Applaud all good plays, whether they are by your team, opponent or the other team.
- Display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.
- Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another player.
- Cooperate with your coach, teammates and opponents. Without them there would be no competition.
- Place in proper perspective the isolated incidents of unsporting behaviour rather than make such incidents the ‘highlight’ of the event.
- If a player is sent off during the game, a one-week suspension is recommended.
- Thank the opposition and officials at the end of a game.
Podium Ready
Podium-Ready Program
Podium-Ready Program
The Podium-Ready Program (PRP) services students competing at a state level or higher. These students may have extraordinary interruptions to school life due to commitments to sport, including high training-hours/travel, regular competitions taking up weekends, or events that require school days to be missed, affecting how they meet their academic requirements.
The program facilitates and supports the development of these individuals by assisting them in managing their commitments to their area of expertise as well as their academic pursuits, and encourages recognition of the individual’s achievements at school and throughout the wider community.
The program can also assist students in areas of training, offering extra skill-specific sessions, even working with their external coaches to help target their school-based training to their overall training goals and development.
Students must apply to be a part of this program. The PRP application process involves the following steps:
- Complete the online PRP application form here
- The Head of Sport and associated PRP staff (including sport facilitators and executive staff) will review your application.
- You will be notified whether your application was successful.
- If successful, you will be sent a letter of acceptance.
- Once the letter is signed and returned to the Head of Sport a meeting will be organised to discuss your needs, as well as further expectations from the program.
- A review of your PRP status will be conducted annually to ensure you are getting the most out of the program and so that we may make any adjustments needed.

Podium Ready
Podium Ready
Aim of Program
The Podium-Ready Program has been designed to support and assist high-performing student athletes from Years 7 to12, who may be considering a career in elite sport. The program aims to help students achieve excellence in their chosen sport, while achieving their best academically.
We recognise that sport at an elite level entails long and often early hours of training, in addition to a normal learning day at school. We are committed to support our students, to fan the flame of their passion, in a sustainable and understanding environment.
What the Podium-Ready Program will entail
Mr Morrissey will coordinate the program and support the girls, while administration assistance will be provided by the sports administrator and our sport facilitators/elite coaches.
The Podium-Ready Program is a multi-faceted approach to nurturing our elite athletes encompassing:
- Individual performance plans
- A focus on essential components of the student’s sport such as speed, fitness, technique and game development with communication between the program coordinator and the student’s external coach(s) on strengths and areas of improvement
- Home Program with home training, body management, mental preparation
- Guest speakers who will add benefits to the girls’ journey in the classroom and on the sport field, covering topics such as nutrition, building resilience, time management, organisational skills, sports psychology and university pathways (national and international)
- A central hub with breakfast following morning training sessions, access to care needs such as a microwave, hair dryer and bag storage
- Regular lunchtime physiotherapy sessions
- Strength and conditioning sessions
- Curriculum support, liaising with the Head of Curriculum and Innovation.
Criteria for Entry
The Podium-Ready Program will follow an application process. The criteria for consideration are:
- At a minimum, the student athlete must be competing at a state final level, or be part of a state development program or equivalent.
- Training/playing a significant number of hours per week: 10+ hours per week as a guide (not including extra minor sports/activities).
Process to Apply
Please complete the Podium-Ready Initial Application Form to register your interest in the program.
Following completion of the Podium-Ready application, the program coordinator will contact successful applicants to meet and discuss the student’s individual needs, demands on her time, level of performance and impact on school life.
I am delighted to see our sport offerings continuing to grow for the Danebank community as we strengthen our commitment to the provision of rich and powerful learning opportunities for all students.
